Making
money from YouTube Shorts was difficult for a long time. There are four ways to
make money off of longer films, but they don't even come close.
Enroll
in YouTube's Partner Program (YPP).
- Share some long video clips.
- Enable video advertising to generate revenue.
- Get paid by the ads.
- So the obvious follow-up question is: how does a Shorts maker get paid?
In
spite of the sluggish pace of development, there are already several methods to
make money using YouTube Shorts. Alright, let's start from the beginning.
1. Earn Money from Ads on YouTube Mini-Series Soon!
As of this writing, YouTube Shorts are not included in the YPP, YouTube's official monetization scheme. Joining the YPP as a Shorts maker is challenging unless you are uploading long-form films and reaching the required milestones (1,000 subscribers and 4,000 view hours). Ad revenue collection is also impossible for brief, vertical content.
Yet
YouTube is shifting the paradigm. The platform will enable revenue sharing for
Shorts advertisements from February 1, 2023. That implies you may monetize the
Shorts Feed with advertising. Based on their "proportion of total Shorts
views," YouTube producers will get 45% of the total income generated by
their videos.
The
best part is that next year, this perk will be available to both new and
returning YPP producers.
But
suppose you haven't joined the YPP yet. Those who make YouTube Shorts are in
luck since YouTube just opened up the programme to them. To participate in the YPP,
you need only satisfy one of the following criteria:
- Accumulate 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 view hours in the last 12 months on YouTube.
- You have 90 days to get 1,000 subscribers and 10 million public YouTube Shorts views.
Finally,
the newest route to the YPP involves accumulating 1,000 subscribers and
10,000,000 views of Shorts. Once inside, you can make money in a number of
ways: through ads on longer videos; through Super Thanks; through Super Chats;
through Channel Memberships; and so on.
These
revisions are being implemented gradually since there are many variables that
must be taken into account. In that case, here is a rough outline of the steps
necessary to start making money off of Shorts:
Beginning
in October 2022, YouTube Shorts views will be included in the 10 million
threshold needed to qualify for the YPP.
Midway
through January 2023, creators will be able to apply for the YPP if they have
amassed 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views (in 90 days).
YouTube Monetization
If
you've been accepted to the YPP, you can start making money from short,
vertical videos on February 1, 2023, when revenue sharing for Shorts ads
begins.
